FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KDR is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Argentinian artist Ana Won, marking her debut in the United States. "The Immortality of Affections" will be on view from January 20th to February 18th, 2024.

In a captivating whirlpool of materialities, languages, and traditions, Ana Won's works seek to evoke the unknown. Won explores the magical and alchemical spiritual approach to making her paintings. Won's influences are absorbed through her Catholic upbringing, discovery and research of Argentina's hieroglyphic caverns, and the native northwestern Tucumán culture.

In "The Immortality of Affections," Won pushes the boundaries of conventional painting. Each piece is presented within sturdy wooden forms, meticulously serving as frame and ornament, reflecting the playful nature inherent in her works. Exploring internal and external relationships takes center stage in varied compositions, presented as diptychs and quadriptych works, inviting viewers to contemplatively engage with the enduring nature of human connections. Wooden sculptures adorned with crowns and legs that seemingly float or dance contain and treasure the magnetic fields described on the canvases.

Since the dawn of humanity, the imperative to express oneself has been woven into the fabric of our collective existence. With her profound insight, Won sees the image as a mediator connecting the living and the dead, humans and gods, communities and cosmologies—an ethereal bridge spanning visible and invisible forces. Won transforms her works into sentient beings acting as time machines traversing past, present, and future. They capture the traces of ages that course through our intimate spaces—a testament to the enduring curiosity of our species and our quest to understand, leaving a lasting mark.
