Twisted Metal
Andrew Laumann

June 12 – July 10, 2022

OPENING RECEPTION
Sunday, June 12, 2–5 PM

Twisted Metal
looking at the bark instead of the forest
sluggishly smoldering
diamond plated soaking wet
a waiting game
and it's time I have
when you're patient, it reveals itself to you
if you have the space to leave it alone, that is
we humans are always picking at ourselves
outsmarting ourselves
a lawless bunch we are
drunk on god's blood
with our time machines
and imperfect instruments
Just what I needed

- Andrew Laumann

KDR305 presents Twisted Metal, featuring new paintings by Baltimore artist Andrew Laumann

The paintings are rooted in an energetic and responsive process; Laumann's works are constructed with paint and paper mounted on canvas. Applied to the surface by being torn, cut, glued, and reapplied in a chaotic yet methodical manner. They sometimes resemble colorful natural stone surfaces or brightly painted gunmetal. The works result in a highly textured surface, discordant but organized. Changes in the direction of swatches add to the compelling nature of this trompe l'oeil effect. Lineal Interruptions create an overall exuberant topographical experience of electrified labyrinths that exist as a visually active meditation.
