Index of First Lines
Joanne Greenbaum

June 13 – July 11, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KDR305 presents Index of First Lines, An exhibition featuring new paintings by Joanne Greenbaum.

These small abstract works on canvas are a new series of paintings created alongside Joanne’s larger-scaled works. Acting as repositories of extra energy and paint accumulation, these paintings function as complete works and as a record of her studio life.

Similar to annotations in notebooks and handmade books the artist makes, the works become a joyful collection of mark-making. Over time they become more than a collection of moves and a structure eventually emerges. The paintings refuse to adhere to the “golden rules” and are unguided by preexisting ideas, either of the artist's own making or that of painting culture itself. The results become combinations of these elements in their random unconscious way.
