FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KDR is thrilled to inaugurate its first solo exhibition with New York-based artist Nick Irzyk at its brand new permanent location, 790 NW 22nd Street, in the bustling Allapattah neighborhood in Miami, FL. Until recently, KDR305 operated out of a small Florida room in the heart of Little Havana. The gallery will now be housed in a 1200 sqft space in a stand-alone corner building from 1937, giving a future platform for KDR artists in a much larger format. The gallery excitingly resides among an ever-growing group of fantastic galleries and institutions in the neighborhood, including Mindy Solomon Gallery, Voloshyn Gallery, Andrew Reed Gallery, La Cometa, Espacio 23, MAP, Super Blue, and The Rubell Museum.

In the exhibition Total Modeling, Irzyk considers the grid, his chosen adage of painting's past, to represent an ever-looping vortex, an undefinable non-space in which endless outcomes are possible.

Having a background in printmaking, Irzyk explores abstraction in large, mosaic-like puzzles. His paintings frequently depict topographic grids, monolithic spherical structures, and endless landscapes. With the viewer's inability to see the image entirely within or outside the network, the systems he creates are never completed.

Geometry and space are illustrated through thick black wireframe lines between which colored tiles sit. Each cell of the patchwork grid is treated as its composition through hand-applied brushwork to equalize the parts and the whole. Some paintings carry a more defined background and foreground relation to space. Some softer, almost pastel-like, with bolder forms launching forward, increasing the rough-hewn opticality of the compositions.

Irzyk's work conveys the geometric clarity and handling of materiality shown in the likes of Sol Lewitt, Carlos Cruz Diaz, Piet Mondrian, Sean Scully, and Stanley Whitney, to name a few. His work is complex yet minimalistic, casual yet eloquent. They are graceful and precise choreography of line, shape, and palette.
